As we hunker down and get ready for the snowy season ahead, there’s a special kind of excitement that settles in at Pine Terrace Resort. It’s that time of year when we pull out the ice houses, rig up our rods, and start counting down the days until the lakes freeze just right. Ice fishing and spearing season is coming—and honestly, it might be the best part of winter.
Kaleb and I have been ice fishing together for over ten years, and every season brings back the same joy, the same traditions, and the same stories we’ve told a hundred times but still laugh about.
My favorite part of ice fishing? Well… it might be making Kaleb haul out the heaviest fish house we own.
Not because I’m cruel—but because it’s made of good old-fashioned wood and has a propane stove inside. And as a self-proclaimed foodie, that means only one thing: fresh fish, sizzling on the stovetop.
We’ve found that by bringing a tin tray, lemon, butter, and seasonings (yes—I’ve got a system honed), and the first good catch of the day becomes lunch. There is nothing like sipping hot cider or coffee while slow-roasting fish inside a warm shack, snow falling outside, and the lake perfectly still beneath your feet.
And that wooden fish house? It has its own charm—and a little history.
It was hand built and passed down from Kaleb’s Grandpa Len, and while it’s definitely not the one we rent to guests, it holds a special place in our hearts. Kaleb tells the story of being 16, turning the gas on too early, and blowing the top clean off the chimney. (Don’t worry—he survived. The fish house survived. The chimney… well, it’s fine now.)
But that’s the thing about ice fishing—the memories stick with you. It’s slow, simple fun. Time to reflect, time to relax, time to laugh at yourself and each other.
Whether you’re trying ice fishing for the very first time or you’re a seasoned angler bringing your own gear and fish house, Pine Terrace Resort is the perfect winter getaway.
Stay in one of our cozy cabins, snuggle up next to the wood-burning fireplace, sip a warm coffee, and watch the snow fall across the lake. When you’re ready, we’ll help you get out on the ice—either fully outfitted with our gear or set up exactly how you like it with your own.
Whether you're coming for the fishing, the quiet, the adventure, or the memories—you’ll find all of it here.
So pack your warmest layers, grab your favorite beverage, and head to Pine Terrace this winter. The lake is calling, the coffee is hot, and the fish are waiting.
