When we announced that Pine Terrace Resort would be adding a 9-hole mini golf course for the 2026 season, we invited our guests to help us name it.
What happened next was even more fun than we expected!
We received 80 name submissions from Pine Terrace families, kids, grandparents, and friends of the resort. Some made us laugh out loud. Others were incredibly clever. Many were beautifully “Northwoods.”
Reading through them felt like a perfect snapshot of the Pine Terrace community. We saw names inspired by fishing, loons, Star Lake, the pine forest, and family fun.
After reviewing, debating, voting, and re-voting… one name kept floating back to the top.
⛳ Loony Links will be the official name of the Pine Terrace mini golf course!
The winning name was submitted by Bonnie Smith, and we love how perfectly it captures the Northwoods spirit of the resort — where the call of the loons is part of the soundtrack of every summer evening on Star Lake.
Bonnie, we’ll be reaching out with a Pine Terrace thank-you!
We had a few other guests comment with this same name, but congratulations to Bonnie for being the first submission with “Loony Links”. Karla, Aaron and Tom - great minds think alike! You were right there with the winning idea.
One thing this little contest confirmed for us: Pine Terrace guests are incredibly creative.
Here are just some of the fantastic suggestions we received from Par-Tee in the Pines to Putt Putt Gray Duck, Questionable Putting Decisions, The Back Nine at Pine, Putt’n Through the Pines, Pitter Patter Putter… in the Pines, we had an absolute blast reading through every submission.
Based on the feedback we received, it sounds like there are going to be a lot of happy folks — and a lot of laughter — on this course.
We can’t wait to see families playing together, kids celebrating hole-in-ones, and maybe a few friendly putting rivalries. Please send us your family pictures this summer!!
Thank you to everyone who participated.
Loony Links is coming soon. And we think it’s going to be a lot of fun.
